Menemen is a traditional Turkish dish which includes eggs, tomatoes, green peppers, and onions. It is often enjoyed as a breakfast meal but can also be served at other meal times.

The dish is named after the district of Menemen, in the Izmir Province, where it is said to have originated.

Preparation[edit | edit source]

Menemen is prepared by lightly sautéing the chopped onions, green peppers, and tomatoes in olive oil until they are soft. Then, the eggs are added and scrambled into the vegetable mixture. The dish is typically seasoned with salt, black pepper, and optionally with ground red pepper, oregano, and mint.

Menemen is usually served hot in the pan it was cooked in, along with bread. It can be consumed either as a main course or a side dish. Some variations may include cheese or different types of meat.
