Methoxydienone

From WikiMD's Wellnesspedia

Methoxydienone, also known as 3-Methoxy-17-methyl-δ1,3,5(10)-estratrien-17-ol, is a synthetic, orally active anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS) and a 17α-alkylated derivative of 19-nortestosterone (nandrolone). It was originally developed for health applications, but has seen increased use in bodybuilding for its muscle-building properties.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

Methoxydienone, as mentioned, is a derivative of 19-nortestosterone. The molecular structure of methoxydienone differs from its parent compound by the addition of a methyl group at carbon 17 and a methoxy group at carbon 3. These modifications enhance the anabolic properties of the compound and reduce its androgenic effects.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

Methoxydienone is classified as an AAS due to its structure and activity. As an AAS, it has effects similar to testosterone in the body. It promotes the growth of muscle tissue and can also have a range of other effects, such as increasing aggression, libido, and recovery rate from exercise. However, like all AAS, methoxydienone also has potential side effects, including liver damage, cardiovascular disease, and effects on mood and behavior.

Use in Bodybuilding[edit | edit source]

In the world of bodybuilding, methoxydienone is often used for its ability to promote rapid gains in muscle mass and strength. However, its use is controversial due to the potential for serious side effects and the ethical issues surrounding the use of performance-enhancing drugs in sports.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

In many countries, including the United States, methoxydienone is classified as a controlled substance, making its use without a prescription illegal. It is also banned by many sports organizations, including the International Olympic Committee and the World Anti-Doping Agency.
