Methyltestosterone 3-hexyl ether

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Methyltestosterone 3-hexyl ether is a synthetic, orally active anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS) and a derivative of testosterone. It is an ether of methyltestosterone and is also known as 17α-methyltestosterone 3-hexyl ether.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

Methyltestosterone 3-hexyl ether, like all AAS, is a synthetic derivative of the male hormone testosterone. It is an ether of methyltestosterone, which itself is a synthetic derivative of testosterone. The modification of adding a hexyl ether group to the 3-position of the testosterone molecule increases its oral bioavailability and resistance to metabolic breakdown.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

As an AAS, Methyltestosterone 3-hexyl ether is primarily used in the treatment of low testosterone levels in men. It can also be used in hormone therapy for transgender men. It works by binding to and activating the androgen receptor, which then influences the body's growth and development of male sex characteristics.

Side Effects[edit | edit source]

Potential side effects of Methyltestosterone 3-hexyl ether include virilization in women, increased risk of prostate cancer in men, and cardiovascular disease. It can also have adverse effects on the liver, particularly when used at high doses or for extended periods of time.
