The Metro Vancouver Regional District (MVRD), commonly known as Metro Vancouver, is a regional district in British Columbia, Canada. It encompasses 21 municipalities, one electoral area, and one treaty First Nation. The district's administrative offices are located in Burnaby.

The Metro Vancouver Regional District was established in 1967 as the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD). It was created to provide regional services and planning for the rapidly growing metropolitan area. In 2007, the name was changed to Metro Vancouver to better reflect the region's identity.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Metro Vancouver covers an area of 2,877.36 square kilometers. It is bordered by the Fraser Valley Regional District to the east, the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District to the north, and the United States to the south. The region includes diverse landscapes, from urban centers to mountainous areas and coastal regions.
Governance[edit | edit source]
The Metro Vancouver Regional District is governed by a Board of Directors, which is composed of elected officials from each member municipality and the electoral area. The Board is responsible for making decisions on regional services, policies, and planning.

- TransLink, which operates the region's public transit system, including buses, the SkyTrain, and the SeaBus.
