Mohawk Valley Health System

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) is a non-profit health system located in Utica, New York. It was established in 2014 through the merger of Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare and St. Elizabeth Medical Center. MVHS operates three campuses: Faxton Campus, St. Luke's Campus, and St. Elizabeth Campus.

Faxton Hospital, now part of MVHS, has a rich history dating back to 1875 when it was established by Theodore S. Faxton. It evolved from the union of two facilities: Children's Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, which originated from the Utica Orphan Asylum in 1830, and Faxton Hospital. In 1989, Faxton Hospital and Children's Hospital merged to become Faxton Hospital.

St. Elizabeth's Hospital, another campus of MVHS, was founded in West Utica in 1866 by Mother M. Bernardina, the founder of the Order of St. Francis in Syracuse.

MVHS is designated as a Children's Miracle Network Hospital and provides a range of acute care and emergency services to the residents of the Mohawk Valley region.
