Morris Michael Edelstein
Morris Michael Edelstein (February 5, 1888 – June 4, 1941) was an American lawyer and politician who served as a U.S. Representative from New York. He was a member of the Democratic Party.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Edelstein was born in Meseritz, Province of Posen, German Empire (now Międzyrzecz, Poland). He immigrated to the United States with his family in 1891, settling in New York City. He attended the public schools and graduated from the City College of New York in 1909. He then went on to earn a law degree from the New York University School of Law in 1912.
Career[edit | edit source]
After being admitted to the bar in 1912, Edelstein began practicing law in New York City. He became involved in local politics and was active in the Democratic Party. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives in a special election to fill the vacancy caused by the death of William I. Sirovich. He served from February 6, 1940, until his death on June 4, 1941.
Death and legacy[edit | edit source]
Edelstein died suddenly of a heart attack while delivering a speech at the 92nd Street YMCA in New York City. He was interred in Mount Zion Cemetery in Queens, New York.
