Nabothian cyst
Nabothian Cyst[edit | edit source]
A Nabothian cyst is a type of cyst that forms on the surface of the cervix. These cysts are filled with mucus that is secreted by the cervical glands. They are usually small, white bumps that can be seen during a gynecological examination.
Causes[edit | edit source]
Nabothian cysts are caused by the blockage of nabothian glands, which are normal glands found in the cervix. The blockage is usually caused by chronic cervicitis, a long-term inflammation of the cervix.
Symptoms[edit | edit source]
Most women with nabothian cysts do not experience any symptoms. However, if the cysts become large, they may cause discomfort or pain during sexual intercourse.
Diagnosis[edit | edit source]
Nabothian cysts are usually discovered during a routine gynecological examination. They can be confirmed by a colposcopy, a procedure that uses a special magnifying instrument to examine the cervix.
Treatment[edit | edit source]
In most cases, nabothian cysts do not require treatment as they usually resolve on their own. However, if the cysts are large and cause symptoms, they may need to be removed. This can be done through a procedure called cystectomy, which involves the surgical removal of the cysts.
