Nandrolone laurate

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Nandrolone Laurate is an anabolic steroid that is used in veterinary medicine, specifically in dogs and cats. It is a long-acting ester of nandrolone, a naturally occurring steroid hormone in the body.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

Nandrolone laurate is a synthetic derivative of testosterone, the primary male sex hormone. It has anabolic effects, which means it promotes the growth of muscle tissue. The laurate ester extends the release of nandrolone from the site of injection, making it effective for up to a month.

Uses[edit | edit source]

In veterinary medicine, nandrolone laurate is used to improve weight gain and physical condition in animals recovering from serious illness or surgery. It may also be used to treat certain forms of anemia and to enhance the performance of racing animals.

Side Effects[edit | edit source]

Potential side effects of nandrolone laurate include virilization (development of male characteristics) in female animals, and testicular atrophy and reduced fertility in male animals. Long-term use can lead to liver damage and cardiovascular disease.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

In many countries, the use of nandrolone laurate and other anabolic steroids is controlled by law due to their potential for abuse and the health risks they pose. In the United States, nandrolone laurate is classified as a Schedule III controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act.
