Newton-Wellesley Hospital

Newton-Wellesley Hospital (NWH) is a nonprofit, community teaching medical center located in Newton, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1881 as Newton Cottage Hospital and is affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine and Harvard Medical School. The hospital is a member of Mass General Brigham, a network founded by Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

NWH offers a wide range of medical, surgical, and specialty care services, including maternity services, a 24-hour emergency department, and inpatient units for orthopedics, critical care, and oncology. The hospital is known for its high standards of care and is designated as a Level II trauma center.

The campus of Newton-Wellesley Hospital includes the Newton Cottage Hospital Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This district consists of several historic buildings, including the original hospital building, constructed in 1894 in Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, and Georgian Revival architectural styles.

Throughout its history, Newton-Wellesley Hospital has played a vital role in providing healthcare services to the local community. It was initially established to serve the needs of the residents of Newton and has since expanded to become a leading medical center in the Greater Boston area.
