Nitzan Horowitz
Nitzan Horowitz (born 24 February 1965) is an Israeli politician, journalist, and former leader of the Meretz party. He has served as a member of the Knesset and held the position of Minister of Health.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Nitzan Horowitz was born in Rishon LeZion, Israel. He attended the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he studied law and international relations.
Journalism Career[edit | edit source]
Before entering politics, Horowitz had a distinguished career in journalism. He worked for Haaretz, one of Israel's leading newspapers, and later became a correspondent for Channel 10 News. His work often focused on international affairs, and he was known for his in-depth reporting from various global hotspots.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Horowitz entered politics in 2009 when he joined the Meretz party. He was elected to the Knesset in the 2009 elections and served until 2015. During his time in the Knesset, he was known for his advocacy on issues such as LGBT rights, environmental protection, and secularism.
Leadership of Meretz[edit | edit source]
In 2019, Horowitz was elected as the leader of the Meretz party. Under his leadership, the party continued to champion progressive causes and participated in various coalition negotiations.
Minister of Health[edit | edit source]
In June 2021, Horowitz was appointed as the Minister of Health in the government led by Naftali Bennett. During his tenure, he focused on managing the COVID-19 pandemic and improving the public healthcare system.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Nitzan Horowitz is openly gay and has been a prominent advocate for LGBT rights in Israel. He lives with his partner in Tel Aviv.
