North America is a continent located in the Northern Hemisphere and almost entirely within the Western Hemisphere. It is bordered to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the east by the Atlantic Ocean, to the west and south by the Pacific Ocean, and to the southeast by South America and the Caribbean Sea.

North America covers an area of about 24,709,000 square kilometers (9,540,000 square miles), about 16.5% of the Earth's land area and about 4.8% of its total surface. It is the third-largest continent by area, following Asia and Africa.

North America consists of 23 fully recognized sovereign states, with the United States, Canada, and Mexico being the largest by land area.

History[edit | edit source]

The history of North America can be divided into several periods: pre-Columbian, European exploration and colonization, the colonial period, and finally, the current era.

Culture[edit | edit source]

North America's culture is a blend of its indigenous roots and a heavy influence from European colonization, particularly by the British and French.

Economy[edit | edit source]

The economy of North America is diverse and industrialized. The United States has the largest economy in the continent, followed by Canada and Mexico.
