From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Nurbakhshi is a branch of Sufism that originated in the 15th century in Persia. It is named after its founder, Nur ad-Din Nurbakhsh, a Persian Sufi and spiritual leader. The Nurbakhshi order is primarily found in Iran and Kashmir, but has followers in other parts of the world as well.

History[edit | edit source]

The Nurbakhshi order was founded by Nur ad-Din Nurbakhsh, who was born in the city of Isfahan in Persia. He was a disciple of the Kubrawiya order, but later established his own spiritual path. The Nurbakhshi order spread rapidly in Persia and later in Kashmir, where it became one of the dominant Sufi orders.

Beliefs and Practices[edit | edit source]

The Nurbakhshi order emphasizes the importance of love and devotion to Allah, as well as the spiritual guidance of the Sheikh or spiritual leader. The followers of the Nurbakhshi order practice Dhikr, a form of remembrance of Allah, and Muraqaba, a form of meditation.

Influence[edit | edit source]

The Nurbakhshi order has had a significant influence on the culture and spirituality of both Iran and Kashmir. It has contributed to the development of Persian literature and Kashmiri literature, and has played a role in the spread of Islam in these regions.
