Oxydol (3466221316)

Oxydol is a brand of laundry detergent that was first introduced in 1914. It was originally manufactured by the Procter & Gamble company and has since become a well-known name in the laundry detergent market.

History[edit | edit source]

Oxydol was one of the first laundry detergents to be marketed in the United States. It was introduced by Procter & Gamble as a powdered detergent that promised to make laundry whiter and brighter. The brand gained popularity quickly due to its effective cleaning power and the innovative marketing strategies employed by Procter & Gamble.

In the 1950s, Oxydol was one of the leading brands of laundry detergent in the United States. It was heavily advertised on radio and television, and it became a household name. The brand's slogan, "Oxydol's own oxygen bleach," emphasized its unique selling point of containing oxygen bleach, which was a new and effective cleaning agent at the time.

Product Evolution[edit | edit source]

Over the years, Oxydol has undergone several changes in its formulation and packaging. The original powdered detergent was eventually joined by liquid and concentrated versions to meet the changing needs of consumers. The brand has also introduced various scents and specialized formulas, such as those designed for high-efficiency washing machines.

Ownership Changes[edit | edit source]

In 2000, Procter & Gamble sold the Oxydol brand to Redox Brands, a company that specializes in acquiring and revitalizing heritage brands. Redox Brands continued to market Oxydol as a value-priced detergent with strong cleaning power. In 2006, Redox Brands merged with CR Brands, which currently owns and markets Oxydol.

Marketing and Advertising[edit | edit source]

Oxydol has been known for its memorable advertising campaigns. In the early days, the brand was promoted through radio soap operas, which were sponsored by Procter & Gamble. This form of advertising was so effective that it led to the term "soap opera" being coined to describe daytime radio dramas.

The brand's advertising has evolved over the years to include television commercials, print ads, and digital marketing. Despite changes in the media landscape, Oxydol has maintained a consistent message of providing powerful cleaning at an affordable price.
