Peter Lehmann was a renowned winemaker from the Barossa Valley, Australia. He was born on August 18, 1930, and passed away on June 28, 2013. Lehmann is often referred to as the "Baron of the Barossa" due to his significant contributions to the Australian wine industry.

Peter Lehmann was born in Angaston, South Australia, in the heart of the Barossa Valley. His parents were Lutheran Pastor Franz Julius Lehmann and his wife, Alma. He left school at the age of 16 to work at the Yalumba winery.

Career[edit | edit source]

In 1959, Lehmann joined Saltram Wine Estate as a winemaker and later became the company's manager. He worked there for 20 years, during which he played a crucial role in the development of Saltram's premium wines.

In 1979, during a grape glut, Lehmann decided to start his own winery, Peter Lehmann Wines, to help local grape growers who were facing financial ruin. His winery quickly gained international recognition for its quality wines.

Peter Lehmann was awarded the Order of Australia in 2000 for his significant service to the Australian wine industry and the community of the Barossa Valley. In 2009, he was named a "legend" in the Business Review Weekly Rich 200 list.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Peter Lehmann was married to Margaret Lehmann, and they had four children. He was known for his love of cricket and horse racing.

Death[edit | edit source]

Peter Lehmann passed away on June 28, 2013, at the age of 82. His legacy continues to live on through his winery, which remains one of the most respected in Australia.
