New York-Presbyterian Hospital is the largest hospital and the largest private employer in New York City. It is also one of the nation’s most comprehensive, integrated academic health care delivery systems, dedicated to providing the highest quality, most compassionate care and service to patients.
Mount Sinai Hospital is one of the oldest and largest teaching hospitals in the U.S. It provides continuous activities and services that improve health and well-being and contribute to the knowledge and development of healthcare professionals and the community.
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is the world's oldest and largest private cancer center. It has devoted more than 130 years to exceptional patient care, innovative research, and outstanding educational programs.

New York City's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is responsible for public health along with issuing birth certificates, dog licenses, and conducting restaurant inspections. It is also responsible for the surveillance and reporting of diseases and conditions prevalent in the city.

New York City is a hub for medical education. The city is home to several prestigious medical schools, including Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, Weill Cornell Medicine, and New York University School of Medicine.
