Powidl (also spelled Povidl, Powidel, or Povitica) is a traditional Central European fruit spread or jam made from plums. Originating from the Slavic regions, Powidl is a staple in the cuisines of countries such as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, and parts of Germany, particularly in Bavaria and Silesia. Unlike other jams and fruit preserves, Powidl is made without the addition of sugar or pectin, relying solely on the natural sweetness and thickening properties of the plums.
