Ada Priscilla Nzimiro

Priscilla Nzimiro was a pioneering Nigerian medical doctor and the first woman from Nigeria to qualify as a medical doctor. She was born in 1923 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.

Early Life and Education

Priscilla Nzimiro was born into a prominent family in Port Harcourt. Her father, Richard Nzimiro, was a successful businessman and politician, and her mother, Mary Nzimiro, was a well-known trader. Priscilla attended the Government Girls' Secondary School, Lagos before proceeding to the University of Glasgow in Scotland where she studied medicine. She graduated in 1950, becoming the first Nigerian woman to earn a medical degree.

Career

After completing her medical education, Dr. Nzimiro returned to Nigeria where she began her medical practice. She worked at the General Hospital, Lagos and later at the General Hospital, Port Harcourt. Dr. Nzimiro was known for her dedication to her patients and her commitment to improving healthcare in Nigeria.
