Psilocybe angulospora
Psilocybe angulospora is a species of mushroom in the family Hymenogastraceae. It is known for its psychoactive properties, primarily due to the presence of psilocybin and psilocin. This species is part of the genus Psilocybe, which includes several other notable psychoactive mushrooms.
Description[edit | edit source]
Psilocybe angulospora has a distinctive appearance characterized by its small to medium-sized fruiting body. The cap is typically conical to bell-shaped, often with a slight umbo. The color of the cap can range from light brown to a darker, more reddish-brown hue, especially when moist. The gills are adnate to adnexed, and they start out pale but darken as the spores mature.
The stipe or stem is slender and can be either straight or slightly curved. It is usually the same color as the cap or slightly lighter. The spore print of Psilocybe angulospora is dark purple-brown, a common characteristic of many Psilocybe species.
Habitat and Distribution[edit | edit source]
Psilocybe angulospora is typically found in temperate regions. It grows in deciduous and coniferous forests, often in leaf litter or on decaying wood. This species has been reported in various parts of North America, Europe, and Asia.
Psychoactive Properties[edit | edit source]
Like other members of the genus Psilocybe, Psilocybe angulospora contains the psychoactive compounds psilocybin and psilocin. These compounds are known to induce hallucinogenic effects, which can include altered perception of time and space, visual and auditory hallucinations, and profound changes in thought and mood.
Legal Status[edit | edit source]
The legal status of Psilocybe angulospora varies by country. In many places, the possession, sale, and use of psilocybin-containing mushrooms are regulated or prohibited. It is important to be aware of local laws and regulations regarding these substances.
