Rami Said Malek (born May 12, 1981) is an American actor. He is best known for his role as Freddie Mercury in the biographical film Bohemian Rhapsody (2018), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor. He also gained critical acclaim for his portrayal of Elliot Alderson in the television series Mr. Robot (2015–2019), earning him a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

Rami Malek was born in Torrance, California, to Egyptian immigrant parents. He has an identical twin brother named Sami. Malek attended Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, where he was in the same class as actress Kirsten Dunst. He later graduated from the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Malek began his acting career with guest-starring roles on television shows such as Gilmore Girls, Over There, and Medium. His first notable role was as Pharaoh Ahkmenrah in the Night at the Museum film series.

Breakthrough and success[edit | edit source]

Malek's breakthrough role came in 2015 when he was cast as the lead character, Elliot Alderson, in the USA Network television series Mr. Robot. His performance was widely praised, earning him several awards, including the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

In 2018, Malek portrayed Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of the British rock band Queen, in the biographical film Bohemian Rhapsody. His performance was critically acclaimed, and he won several awards, including the Academy Award for Best Actor, the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama, and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role.
