The college is affiliated with the University of Chittagong and is recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BM&DC), the regulatory authority for medical and dental professions in Bangladesh.

History[edit | edit source]

Rangamati Medical College was inaugurated with the aim of improving healthcare services in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, a region that has historically been underserved in terms of medical facilities and professionals. The establishment of the college was part of a broader government initiative to expand medical education and healthcare services across Bangladesh, especially in rural and underserved areas.

Campus[edit | edit source]

The college campus is situated in Rangamati, known for its scenic beauty and diverse cultural heritage. The campus includes academic buildings, a hospital for practical training, student hostels, and staff accommodations. The college's infrastructure is designed to support a conducive learning environment with modern classrooms, laboratories, and a library equipped with medical textbooks and journals.

The curriculum is designed as per the guidelines of the BM&DC and includes pre-clinical, para-clinical, and clinical phases. Students undergo rigorous training that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills. After completing the five-year course, graduates are required to complete a one-year internship in the college hospital or any other approved hospital to be eligible for full registration as a medical practitioner with the BM&DC.

Admission[edit | edit source]

Admission to Rangamati Medical College is highly competitive, with candidates selected based on their performance in a national medical admission test. The test assesses applicants' knowledge in subjects such as biology, chemistry, physics, and English. The government of Bangladesh has a quota system in place to ensure representation from all regions of the country, including special quotas for students from the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
