Ripple Foods

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Ripple Foods is a food technology company based in Emeryville, California. The company specializes in the development and production of plant-based dairy alternatives. Ripple Foods was founded in 2014 by Adam Lowry and Neil Renninger, with the aim of creating a sustainable, nutritious, and tasty alternative to dairy products.

History[edit | edit source]

Ripple Foods was established in 2014 by co-founders Adam Lowry and Neil Renninger. Lowry, a former chemical engineer, had previously co-founded Method Products, a company known for its environmentally friendly cleaning products. Renninger, a biochemist, had co-founded Amyris, a biotech company that produces sustainable alternatives to petroleum-based products.

The company launched its first product, a pea protein-based milk alternative, in 2016. Since then, Ripple Foods has expanded its product line to include a variety of plant-based dairy alternatives, such as yogurt, half-and-half, and protein shakes.

Products[edit | edit source]

Ripple Foods' products are known for their high protein content and creamy texture, which is achieved through a proprietary method of extracting protein from peas. The company's product line includes:

  • Ripple Milk: A plant-based milk alternative made from pea protein. It is available in several flavors, including original, unsweetened, vanilla, and chocolate.
  • Ripple Half & Half: A dairy-free alternative to traditional half-and-half, made from pea protein.
  • Ripple Yogurt: A plant-based yogurt alternative, also made from pea protein.
  • Ripple Protein Shakes: Ready-to-drink protein shakes made from pea protein.

Sustainability[edit | edit source]

Ripple Foods emphasizes sustainability in its operations. The company claims that its pea protein-based products use significantly less water and produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional dairy products. Ripple Foods also uses recyclable packaging for its products.
