Roberta Kalechofsky
Roberta Kalechofsky (born May 11, 1931) is an American writer, publisher, and animal rights advocate. She is known for her contributions to Jewish vegetarianism and her work in promoting animal rights within the Jewish community.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Roberta Kalechofsky was born in Brooklyn, New York City. She attended Brooklyn College, where she earned her bachelor's degree in 1952. She later received her Ph.D. in English literature from New York University.
Career[edit | edit source]
Kalechofsky began her career as a writer and has published numerous works of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. Her writing often explores themes of Jewish identity, ethics, and animal rights. In addition to her literary work, she is the founder of Micah Publications, a publishing house dedicated to Jewish vegetarianism and animal rights.

In 1975, Kalechofsky founded Micah Publications, which has published a variety of works on Jewish vegetarianism, animal rights, and ethical living. The publishing house has been instrumental in promoting the idea that vegetarianism is consistent with Jewish teachings and values.

Kalechofsky is a prominent advocate for vegetarianism and veganism within the Jewish community. She has written extensively on the subject, arguing that a plant-based diet is not only healthier but also more ethical and in line with Jewish principles.
