SKF-83959

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

SKF-83959 is a drug that acts as a Dopamine receptor agonist specifically at D1/D5 receptor subtype. It has neuroprotective effects and has been proposed as a treatment for Parkinson's disease.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

SKF-83959 is a Dopamine receptor agonist, but unlike most D1-like receptor agonists, it does not produce cAMP but instead stimulates Phosphatidylinositol (PI) hydrolysis, which makes it a useful research tool. It has been shown to have neuroprotective effects and is being researched for potential therapeutic roles in conditions such as Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease.

Clinical significance[edit | edit source]

Research has suggested that SKF-83959 may have potential therapeutic benefits in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. It has been shown to improve motor function and reduce L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia in animal models of the disease. Further research is needed to determine its efficacy and safety in humans.
