Sally Kirkland (born October 31, 1941) is an American actress and activist. She is known for her extensive work in film, television, and theater. Kirkland received critical acclaim for her role in the 1987 film Anna, for which she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama and received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress.

Sally Kirkland was born in New York City, New York. She is the daughter of Sally Kirkland, a fashion editor at Vogue and Life magazines, and Frederic McMichael Kirkland, a salesman. She was named after her mother.
Career[edit | edit source]
Kirkland began her career in the 1960s, appearing in off-Broadway productions and working as a model. She made her film debut in The Sting (1973) and gained recognition for her roles in The Way We Were (1973) and A Star Is Born (1976).
In 1987, Kirkland starred in the film Anna, which became a turning point in her career. Her portrayal of a Czechoslovakian actress struggling in New York City earned her the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama and an Academy Award for Best Actress nomination.
Kirkland has also appeared in numerous television series, including Roseanne, Days of Our Lives, and Criminal Minds. She continues to act in both film and television, with recent appearances in Archaeology of a Woman (2012) and Buddy Solitaire (2016).

In addition to her acting career, Kirkland is known for her activism. She has been involved in various causes, including women's rights, LGBT rights, and spirituality. She is an ordained minister in the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness.
