Shawano County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 40,665. Its county seat is Shawano. The county was created in 1853 and organized in 1861.

Shawano County was established in 1853 and was named after the Menominee word "Sāwanoh," meaning "to the south." The county has a rich history of Native American presence, particularly the Menominee and Ho-Chunk tribes.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 909 square miles (2,350 km²), of which 893 square miles (2,310 km²) is land and 16 square miles (41 km²) (1.8%) is water. The county is characterized by its diverse landscape, including forests, rivers, and lakes.

As of the 2020 census, there were 40,665 people, 16,588 households, and 11,234 families residing in the county. The population density was 45.5 people per square mile (17.6/km²).
