Outagamie County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 190,705. Its county seat is Appleton.

History[edit | edit source]

Outagamie County was created in 1851 from part of Brown County. The name "Outagamie" is derived from a Native American word meaning "dwellers on the other side of the stream."

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 645 square miles (1,670 km²), of which 638 square miles (1,650 km²) is land and 7.1 square miles (18 km²) (1.1%) is water.

As of the 2020 census, there were 190,705 people, 74,526 households, and 49,512 families residing in the county. The population density was 299 people per square mile (115/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 89.5% White, 1.7% Black or African American, 0.8% Native American, 3.1% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.1% from other races, and 2.7% from two or more races. 5.1% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Outagamie County is served by several school districts, including the Appleton Area School District, Kaukauna Area School District, and Seymour Community School District.
