Sherry Yard is an acclaimed American pastry chef and author. She is best known for her work as the executive pastry chef at Spago, a renowned restaurant in Beverly Hills, California. Yard has received numerous awards for her culinary achievements, including the James Beard Foundation Award for Outstanding Pastry Chef.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Sherry Yard was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She developed a passion for baking at a young age, often helping her grandmother in the kitchen. Yard attended the New York City College of Technology, where she studied hospitality management. She later honed her culinary skills at the Culinary Institute of America.
Career[edit | edit source]
Yard began her professional career at the Rainbow Room in New York City. She then moved to California, where she worked at the Campton Place Hotel in San Francisco. In 1994, Yard joined Wolfgang Puck at Spago in Beverly Hills. As the executive pastry chef, she became known for her innovative desserts that combined classic techniques with fresh, seasonal ingredients.
In addition to her work at Spago, Yard has authored several cookbooks, including "The Secrets of Baking" and "Desserts by the Yard". She has also appeared on various television shows, such as Top Chef and Iron Chef America.
In 2014, Yard left Spago to open her own bakery, Helms Bakery, in Culver City, California. The bakery is a tribute to the original Helms Bakery, which was a Los Angeles institution from 1931 to 1969.

Throughout her career, Yard has received numerous awards and accolades. She is a three-time James Beard Award winner, receiving the Outstanding Pastry Chef award in 2002. Yard was also inducted into the James Beard Foundation's Who's Who of Food and Beverage in America in 2014.

Yard is married to Bernard Erpicum, a restaurateur. They reside in Los Angeles, California.
