Yanklowitz was born and raised in the United States. He pursued his higher education at various institutions, earning degrees in philosophy, Jewish studies, and social work. He holds a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin, a M.A. from Harvard University, and a M.S.W. from Columbia University. He also received rabbinic ordination from Yeshivat Chovevei Torah.
