Sunshine Biscuits

Sunshine Biscuits was an American biscuit and cookie manufacturer. Founded in 1902, the company became known for its popular brands such as Hydrox cookies and Cheez-It crackers. Sunshine Biscuits was headquartered in Elmhurst, Illinois.

Sunshine Biscuits was established in 1902 by the merger of several independent bakeries. The company quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality baked goods. In 1912, Sunshine Biscuits introduced the Hydrox cookie, which was the first chocolate sandwich cookie with a creme filling, predating the Oreo by four years.

In 1921, Sunshine Biscuits launched the Cheez-It cracker, which became one of its most successful products. The company continued to expand its product line throughout the 20th century, introducing various cookies, crackers, and other baked goods.

Acquisition[edit | edit source]

In 1996, Sunshine Biscuits was acquired by the Keebler Company, which itself was later acquired by the Kellogg Company in 2001. Despite the acquisitions, many of Sunshine Biscuits' products continued to be produced and sold under the Keebler and Kellogg brands.
