Tagged

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Tagged is a social networking website originally aimed at junior high and high school students but is now open to people of all ages. The website allows members to browse the profiles of other members, play games, and share tags and virtual gifts.

History[edit | edit source]

Tagged was created in 2004 by Greg Tseng and Johann Schleier-Smith. The company was initially funded by venture capitalist firms including The Founders Fund, Mayfield Fund, and Reid Hoffman. In 2011, Tagged acquired Digsby, a multi-protocol instant messenger and social network notification client.

Features[edit | edit source]

Tagged has many features which are common to social networking sites. These include a personal profile, dating, chat, blogs, and video sharing. The site also has a feature called "Pets", which allows members to "own", buy, and sell other members like a fantasy team.

Criticism[edit | edit source]

Tagged has been criticized for its aggressive email invitation policies. In 2009, the company paid $1.4 million in legal settlements to San Francisco and Texas for sending deceptive bulk email and for enabling "spammy" practices.
