Texidor's twinge
Texidor's Twinge (also known as Precordial Catch Syndrome or PCS) is a non-serious and common condition affecting the chest wall in children and young adults. Although the exact cause is unknown, it is believed to be related to the growth of the chest wall or the inflammation of the pleura - the tissues surrounding the lungs.
Symptoms[edit | edit source]
The primary symptom of Texidor's Twinge is a sharp, stabbing pain in the chest. This pain is usually located on the left side of the chest, but it can occur on either side. The pain is often exacerbated by deep breathing, and can range from mild to severe. Despite the intensity of the pain, Texidor's Twinge is typically harmless and resolves on its own within a few minutes.
Causes[edit | edit source]
The exact cause of Texidor's Twinge is unknown. However, it is believed to be related to the growth of the chest wall in children and young adults. It may also be related to the inflammation of the pleura, the tissues that surround the lungs. Other theories suggest that it may be caused by a pinched nerve in the chest.
Diagnosis[edit | edit source]
Texidor's Twinge is typically diagnosed based on the patient's description of their symptoms. Because the pain is brief and the condition is not dangerous, further diagnostic tests are usually not necessary. However, if the pain is persistent or severe, further tests may be conducted to rule out other conditions such as heart disease or pulmonary embolism.
Treatment[edit | edit source]
There is no specific treatment for Texidor's Twinge as the condition usually resolves on its own within a few minutes. However, taking shallow breaths can help to alleviate the pain. In some cases, changing body positions or massaging the area can also help.
Prognosis[edit | edit source]
The prognosis for Texidor's Twinge is excellent. The condition is not dangerous and does not cause any long-term complications. However, it can cause anxiety due to the severity of the pain and its similarity to more serious conditions such as heart disease.
