The Longest Daycare
The Longest Daycare is a 2012 American animated short film based on the animated television series The Simpsons. The short was directed by David Silverman and produced by James L. Brooks, Matt Groening, and Al Jean. It features the character Maggie Simpson and was released in theaters alongside the film Ice Age: Continental Drift.
Plot[edit | edit source]
The story follows Maggie Simpson as she spends a day at the Ayn Rand School for Tots. Upon arrival, Maggie is subjected to a security scan that labels her as "nothing special." She is placed in a room with other toddlers, including her nemesis, Baby Gerald. Maggie discovers a butterfly that she tries to protect from Baby Gerald, who is intent on killing it. The short film showcases Maggie's efforts to save the butterfly, culminating in a dramatic and emotional conclusion.
Production[edit | edit source]
The Longest Daycare was produced by Gracie Films and 20th Century Fox Animation. The short was created using traditional 2D animation, a departure from the computer-generated animation that has become more common in recent years. The animation style and humor are consistent with the long-running television series The Simpsons.
Reception[edit | edit source]
The short film received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. It was praised for its humor, animation quality, and emotional depth. The Longest Daycare was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 85th Academy Awards.
