Theodor Weber (1829–1914) was a prominent German physician and professor known for his contributions to internal medicine and pathology. He was a significant figure in the medical community during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Theodor Weber was born on June 29, 1829, in Leipzig, Kingdom of Saxony. He pursued his medical studies at the University of Leipzig, where he was influenced by notable professors such as Carl Reinhold August Wunderlich and Ernst Leberecht Wagner. Weber earned his medical degree in 1853.

Career[edit | edit source]

After completing his education, Weber worked as an assistant at the University of Leipzig's medical clinic. In 1861, he became a professor of internal medicine at the University of Halle, where he made significant contributions to the field of pathology.

Weber's research focused on various aspects of internal medicine, including cardiology, pulmonology, and gastroenterology. He was particularly known for his work on tuberculosis and pneumonia. His clinical observations and teachings greatly influenced the practice of medicine in Germany and beyond.

Theodor Weber is credited with several important medical discoveries and advancements. He was one of the first physicians to describe the clinical features of pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis. His work on the pathophysiology of these conditions laid the groundwork for future research and treatment.

Weber also made significant contributions to the understanding of infectious diseases, particularly tuberculosis. He advocated for the use of sanatoriums for the treatment of tuberculosis patients, which became a standard practice in the early 20th century.
