Thousand Oaks
Thousand Oaks is a city located in southeastern Ventura County, California, in the United States. It is named for the many oak trees that grace the area, and the city seal is adorned with an oak.

The area was originally home to the Chumash people, who also left a cave painting depicting the area's oak trees. Thousand Oaks was later part of the Spanish land grant, Rancho El Conejo. The city was incorporated on October 7, 1964.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Thousand Oaks is located in the Conejo Valley, with the Santa Monica Mountains to the south and the Santa Susana Mountains to the north. The city has a total area of 55.2 square miles.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 126,683. The racial makeup of the city was predominantly White, with a significant Hispanic or Latino population.
Economy[edit | edit source]
Thousand Oaks is home to several large businesses, including Amgen, the world's largest biotechnology firm, and Skyworks Solutions Inc, a semiconductor company.
Education[edit | edit source]
The city is served by the Conejo Valley Unified School District, which includes several high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools. Thousand Oaks is also home to California Lutheran University.
Culture[edit | edit source]
Thousand Oaks is known for its cultural institutions, including the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, the Conejo Valley Art Museum, and the Stagecoach Inn Museum.
Government[edit | edit source]
Thousand Oaks operates under a council-manager form of government. The city council consists of five members elected at large, and the city manager is appointed by the council.

Several notable people have hailed from Thousand Oaks, including actress Heather Locklear, musician Richard Carpenter, and professional golfer Tiger Woods.
