Toy Story 3 is a 2010 American computer-animated comedy-drama film produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures. It is the third installment in the Toy Story series and the sequel to Toy Story 2 (1999). The film was directed by Lee Unkrich, the editor of the first two films and co-director of the second, written by Michael Arndt, while John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, and Unkrich wrote the story.

Plot[edit | edit source]

The film continues the story of Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), and their friends as they face an uncertain future when their owner, Andy, prepares to leave for college. The toys are mistakenly delivered to a daycare center instead of the attic, where they were meant to be stored. At the daycare, they meet new toys, including Lotso, a pink, strawberry-scented teddy bear who turns out to be a tyrant. The toys must work together to escape the daycare and return home to Andy.

Voice Cast[edit | edit source]

Production[edit | edit source]

The film was produced by Darla K. Anderson and directed by Lee Unkrich. The screenplay was written by Michael Arndt, with the story developed by John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, and Unkrich. Randy Newman returned to compose the film's score, having worked on the previous two films.

Release[edit | edit source]

Toy Story 3 premiered on June 12, 2010, at the Taormina Film Fest in Italy, and was released in the United States on June 18, 2010. The film was released in Disney Digital 3-D, RealD 3D, and IMAX 3D formats.

Reception[edit | edit source]

Toy Story 3 received critical acclaim for its story, voice acting, animation, and emotional depth. It became the first animated film to gross over $1 billion worldwide and was the highest-grossing film of 2010. The film won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and was nominated for Best Picture, among other accolades.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Toy Story 3 is considered one of the greatest animated films ever made. It was followed by a sequel, Toy Story 4, released in 2019.
