The University of Delhi (DU), also known as Delhi University, is a premier public university located in New Delhi, India. Founded in 1922 by an Act of the Central Legislative Assembly, the university was established to promote excellence in higher education and has since become one of India's leading institutions of higher learning.

The University of Delhi was established in 1922 with the initial support of the British colonial government.
