Fluticasone furoate is a corticosteroid often used in the treatment of asthma and allergic rhinitis. It is a synthetic member of the glucocorticoids class of steroids and is marketed under several brand names, including Veramyst and Avamys.

Fluticasone furoate is a synthetic glucocorticoid which exhibits anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. It works by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor, leading to changes in gene expression which result in decreased inflammation.

Medical uses[edit | edit source]

Fluticasone furoate is primarily used in the treatment of asthma and allergic rhinitis. It is also used in the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Side effects[edit | edit source]

Common side effects of fluticasone furoate include headache, throat irritation, and nosebleeds. More serious side effects may include adrenal suppression, growth suppression in children, and decreased bone mineral density.

Fluticasone furoate was first approved for medical use in the United States in 2007. It is marketed by GlaxoSmithKline under the brand names Veramyst (in the United States) and Avamys (in Europe and Canada).
