Vinyl chloride is a chlorinated hydrocarbon that is primarily utilized in the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastics. It is a colorless gas with a slightly sweet odor. Vinyl chloride is produced from 1,2-dichloroethane through a dehydrochlorination process.
