Washington County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 209,349. The county seat is Washington. The county was created on March 28, 1781, from part of Westmoreland County and named after George Washington.

Washington County was the first county in the United States to be named in honor of President George Washington. The county played a significant role during the Whiskey Rebellion of 1791-1794, which was a protest against the federal excise tax on whiskey.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 861 square miles (2,230 km²), of which 857 square miles (2,220 km²) is land and 4.1 square miles (11 km²) (0.5%) is water.

As of the 2020 census, there were 209,349 people, 86,595 households, and 57,555 families residing in the county. The population density was 244 people per square mile (94/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 93.5% White, 3.5% Black or African American, 0.1% Native American, 0.6% Asian, and 2.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.

Washington County is governed by a board of three commissioners. The county is part of Pennsylvania's 14th congressional district.

Washington County is home to several institutions of higher education, including Washington & Jefferson College and the California University of Pennsylvania.
