White County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 26,939. Its county seat is Sparta.

White County was created in 1806 from parts of Jackson and Smith counties. It was named after John White, a Revolutionary War soldier and early settler.
Geography[edit | edit source]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 379 square miles (980 km²), of which 377 square miles (980 km²) is land and 2.2 square miles (5.7 km²) (0.6%) is water.

Demographics[edit | edit source]
As of the 2020 census, there were 26,939 people, 10,000 households, and 7,000 families residing in the county. The population density was 71 people per square mile (27/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 95.5% White, 1.2% Black or African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.4% Asian, and 2.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.0% of the population.
