Van Buren County, Tennessee is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 5,931. Its county seat is Spencer. The county was created in 1840 and named for Martin Van Buren, the eighth President of the United States.

Van Buren County was established in 1840 from parts of Warren and White counties. The county was named in honor of Martin Van Buren, who was serving as President of the United States at the time.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 275 square miles (710 km²), of which 273 square miles (710 km²) is land and 2.0 square miles (5.2 km²) (0.7%) is water.

As of the 2020 census, there were 5,931 people, 2,394 households, and 1,678 families residing in the county. The population density was 22 people per square mile (8.5/km²). There were 2,894 housing units at an average density of 11 per square mile (4.2/km²).
