The Winter Olympic Games is a major international multi-sport event held once every four years for sports practiced on snow and ice. The first Winter Olympics, the 1924 Winter Olympics, were held in Chamonix, France. The Winter Games have evolved significantly since their inception, with the addition of new sports and events.

The idea of holding a winter version of the Olympic Games was first proposed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in the early 20th century. The first Winter Olympics were held in 1924 in Chamonix, France, and featured six sports: bobsleigh, curling, ice hockey, Nordic skiing, figure skating, and speed skating.
