5α-Dihydronormethandrone

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

5α-Dihydronormethandrone (also known as 5α-DHN and 5α-Dihydronorethandrolone) is a steroid and androgen that is derived from nandrolone. It is a major metabolite of nandrolone and is formed in the body following the administration of nandrolone or its esters such as nandrolone decanoate and nandrolone phenylpropionate.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

5α-Dihydronormethandrone, also known as 5α-dihydronorethandrolone, is a synthetic estrane steroid and a derivative of testosterone. It is more specifically a derivative of nandrolone (19-nortestosterone), which is itself a derivative of testosterone. 5α-Dihydronormethandrone is formed from nandrolone in the body by 5α-reductase.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

As an androgen, 5α-Dihydronormethandrone has the capacity to stimulate the development and maintenance of masculine secondary sexual characteristics and is therefore important for the overall health and well-being in males. It is also involved in the maintenance of skin and bone health, the development of lean body mass, and the prevention of osteoporosis.

Side Effects[edit | edit source]

Like all androgens, 5α-Dihydronormethandrone can have a range of side effects. These can include acne, hair loss, body hair growth, voice deepening, and increased aggression. It can also have effects on the cardiovascular system, including hypertension and atherosclerosis, and can increase the risk of prostate cancer.
