5-DBFPV

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

5-DBFPV (also known as 5-Dihydrobenzofuranpyrovalerone) is a psychoactive drug of the cathinone class that has been sold online as a designer drug. It is a derivative of MDPV where the methylenedioxyphenyl group has been replaced by a dihydrobenzofuran group.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

5-DBFPV belongs to the cathinone class of substances, which are central nervous system stimulants. Cathinones are a sub-category of amphetamines, sharing the core amphetamine structure of a phenyl ring bound to an amino (NH2) group through an ethyl chain with an additional methyl substitution at Rα.

5-DBFPV is a derivative of MDPV, a powerful stimulant synthesized from the drug cathinone. The structural makeup of 5-DBFPV includes the replacement of the methylenedioxyphenyl group in MDPV with a dihydrobenzofuran group.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

The pharmacology of 5-DBFPV is largely unknown, with little scientific research conducted on this substance. However, it is known that 5-DBFPV, like other drugs of the cathinone class, acts as a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI). This means it effectively boosts the levels of the norepinephrine and dopamine neurotransmitters in the brain by binding to and partially blocking the transporter proteins that normally remove those monoamines from the synaptic cleft.

Effects[edit | edit source]

The effects of 5-DBFPV are believed to be similar to those of other stimulant drugs of the cathinone class. These may include feelings of euphoria, increased alertness and awareness, increased energy and motivation, thought acceleration, and increased sociability. However, these effects are often accompanied by negative side effects such as anxiety, paranoia, and increased heart rate.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

The legal status of 5-DBFPV varies by country. In some countries, it is a controlled substance, while in others it is legal to possess for personal use. It is always recommended to check the legal status in your own country before possession or distribution.
