5-Fluoro-αMT
5-Fluoro-αMT (also known as 5-Fluoro-α-methyltryptamine) is a psychedelic and hallucinogenic drug that is structurally related to α-Methyltryptamine (αMT) and tryptamine itself. It is classified as a serotonin receptor agonist and monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), and is known for its psychoactive effects.
Chemistry[edit | edit source]
5-Fluoro-αMT is a fluorinated derivative of αMT, which means it has a fluorine atom attached to it. This modification is believed to increase the potency of the drug. It belongs to the tryptamine class of compounds, which are structurally similar to the amino acid tryptophan.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
As a serotonin receptor agonist, 5-Fluoro-αMT stimulates the serotonin receptors in the brain, leading to a range of psychoactive effects. It also acts as a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), which means it inhibits the breakdown of monoamine neurotransmitters such as dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin, thereby increasing their availability.
Effects[edit | edit source]
The effects of 5-Fluoro-αMT are similar to those of other psychedelic drugs, and can include hallucinations, altered perception of time and space, enhanced sensory experiences, and psychological introspection. However, the specific effects can vary greatly depending on the individual and the dose taken.
Risks and legality[edit | edit source]
Like other psychedelic drugs, 5-Fluoro-αMT carries risks, including the potential for psychological dependence, psychosis, and serotonin syndrome when combined with certain other drugs. Its legal status varies by country, and it is considered a controlled substance in many places.
