Lymphangioma
(Redirected from Abdominal cystic lymphangioma)
Lymphangioma is a type of benign tumor that occurs in the lymphatic system. It is most commonly found in children and is usually present at birth or appears by the age of 2.
Types[edit | edit source]
There are three main types of lymphangioma:
- Cystic lymphangioma: This is the most common type and is usually found in the neck and armpit.
- Capillary lymphangioma: This type is usually found on the skin or mucous membranes.
- Cavernous lymphangioma: This type is usually found deeper in the body and can affect the muscles and bones.
Symptoms[edit | edit source]
The symptoms of lymphangioma depend on the type and location of the tumor. They can include:
- A soft, painless lump under the skin
- Breathing difficulties
- Swelling in the affected area
- Bleeding or bruising easily
- Infections in the affected area
Diagnosis[edit | edit source]
Lymphangioma is usually diagnosed using imaging tests such as ultrasound, MRI, or CT scan. A biopsy may also be performed to confirm the diagnosis.
Treatment[edit | edit source]
The treatment for lymphangioma depends on the size and location of the tumor. It can include:
- Surgery to remove the tumor
- Radiotherapy or chemotherapy to shrink the tumor
- Sclerotherapy to destroy the tumor
Prognosis[edit | edit source]
The prognosis for lymphangioma is generally good, especially if the tumor is small and can be completely removed. However, there can be complications if the tumor is large or located in a difficult-to-reach area.
