Allergic shiner

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellnesspedia

Allergic Shiner is a term used to describe the appearance of dark circles under the eyes, which is often associated with allergies. This condition is also known as allergic facies or allergic black eyes.

Causes[edit | edit source]

The primary cause of allergic shiner is congestion of the nose and sinuses, which can be caused by a variety of allergens such as pollen, dust mites, mold, and pet dander. This congestion can lead to increased blood flow in the area, which can cause the skin under the eyes to appear darker.

Symptoms[edit | edit source]

The main symptom of allergic shiner is the appearance of dark circles under the eyes. Other symptoms can include itchy eyes, runny nose, sneezing, and coughing. These symptoms can be worse in the morning and can be exacerbated by exposure to allergens.

Treatment[edit | edit source]

Treatment for allergic shiner primarily involves managing the underlying allergies. This can include avoiding allergens, using antihistamines, and using nasal sprays. In some cases, immunotherapy may be recommended.
