From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

American Base Hospital No. 238 was a United States Army military hospital during World War I. It was one of the many base hospitals established by the U.S. Army to provide medical care to soldiers during the war.

History[edit | edit source]

American Base Hospital No. 238 was established in 1918 as part of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) in France. The hospital was located in the city of Bordeaux, one of the main ports of entry for American troops during the war. The hospital was staffed by medical personnel from the U.S. Army and civilian volunteers from the American Red Cross.

Operations[edit | edit source]

The hospital provided a wide range of medical services, including surgery, internal medicine, and psychiatry. It also had a laboratory for medical research and diagnosis. The hospital had a capacity of about 1,000 beds, but it often treated more patients due to the high demand for medical care during the war.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

After the war, American Base Hospital No. 238 was disbanded and its facilities were returned to the French government. However, the hospital's contributions to medical care during World War I were recognized by the U.S. Army and the American Red Cross. Today, the history of American Base Hospital No. 238 is preserved in the records of the National Archives and Records Administration.
