Andrew David Hamilton is a British chemist and academic administrator. He has served as the President of New York University since 2016. Prior to this, he was the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford from 2009 to 2015 and the Provost of Yale University from 2004 to 2008.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Andrew Hamilton was born in Guildford, Surrey, England. He completed his undergraduate studies in chemistry at the University of Exeter. He then pursued a master's degree at the University of British Columbia and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge.
Academic Career[edit | edit source]
Hamilton began his academic career as a faculty member at Princeton University. He later joined the faculty at Yale University, where he served as a professor of chemistry and held various administrative roles, including Deputy Provost for Science and Technology and Provost.
In 2009, Hamilton was appointed Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford, where he served until 2015. During his tenure, he focused on expanding the university's global presence and increasing funding for research and scholarships.
In 2016, Hamilton became the President of New York University. Under his leadership, NYU has continued to expand its global network and enhance its academic programs.

Hamilton's research in the field of chemistry has focused on the design and synthesis of biologically active molecules. His work has contributed to the understanding of molecular recognition and the development of new therapeutic agents.
