Androstanolone benzoate is a synthetic androgen and anabolic steroid (AAS) and a derivative of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It is more specifically a C17β ester of androstanolone (dihydrotestosterone, DHT) with benzoic acid. Androstanolone benzoate is used in medicine in the treatment of androgen deficiency disorders.

Pharmacology[edit]

As an AAS, androstanolone benzoate is an agonist of the androgen receptor (AR), similarly to androgens like testosterone and DHT. It has strong androgenic effects and weak anabolic effects, as well as minimal estrogenic effects.

Chemistry[edit]

Androstanolone benzoate, also known as 5α-androstan-17β-ol-3-one 17β-benzoate, is a synthetic estrane steroid and a derivative of DHT. It is an ester of androstanolone with benzoic acid at the C17β position.

History[edit]

Androstanolone benzoate was first described in the scientific literature in 1961. It was developed for medical use by Roussel Uclaf in the 1960s.

Society and culture[edit]

Androstanolone benzoate is marketed under the brand name Astanolone. It is available only in a few countries, including France and Italy.
